This painting illustrates one of Jesus’s parables about self reflection and humility. It reminds us how easy it is to point out the faults in others while ignoring our own. The man’s anger and judgment are clouded by the massive “log” blinding his vision, while Jesus looks at him with calm truth and quiet conviction.

The scene captures the uncomfortable reality that spiritual growth begins with self awareness. Before we can correct others, we have to face what’s in our own sight.
